ABOUT THE TOWN

The Westport Library resides in beautiful Westport Connecticut, home of Kevin Bacon, Keith Richards, Nile Rogers, Rob Froboni, Martha Stewart, Anne Hathaway, and many more recognizable faces. The town has cultivated an image as a center of creative energy since the early 1900's, when artists, actors, musicians and writers flocked to its shores to work and play. It is renowned as an attractive seaside outpost within reach of New York City. Despite its high-profile residents, Westport has a low-key, beach town vibe as well as a distinct character that reflects its history as an artist’s colony. Young families are attracted by the town's exceptional school system, a wide range of recreational opportunities and a strong sense of community.

ABOUT THE LIBRARY

The Westport Library boasts 40,000 square feet of contemporary architecture which will house new modular community spaces, a recording studio, multi-camera live streaming stage, photo/video facilities, podcast stations, and a makerspace. The Westport Library is once again leading by example and driving innovation! These studios will allow the Library to teach people how to utilize critical media tools and add expertise to their 21st century tool box. Whether it’s the high school garage band recording a demo tape, a budding local film crew producing their first movie, or an entrepreneur creating a promotional video to support the invention prototyped in our MakerSpace - the possibilities are nearly limitless. No other public library in the nation has such resources!

Our Mission

The WESTPORT LIBRARY is at the forefront of a revolutionary shift in community expression providing an ultramodern platform for everyone to create, learn, and inspire! Our goal is to spearhead a visionary movement, propelling thought and imagination into our next generation of community builders. We believe that public libraries should illuminate our society with modern innovation, provide resources for imagination/expression, and be the foundation of community creative support. The library of the future curates meaningful experiences, produces innovative programming, provides relevant resources, archives great content, and develops advanced ways of collaborating. We call this initiative The Westport Library Transformation Project.
